Thought I would share some of my poems with you...here is one to start with...hope you like it. One day I would like to put some of my poems on CD with some music, etc... THE KNIGHT For a knight in shining armour, she waits so patiently, Perhaps he’ll come tomorrow; he’ll come and set her free. He’ll take her from the awful life, that she must live for now, Maybe one day he just might come, but she isn’t sure somehow She rises from the table, her face it is tear stained, Her tears that run like rivers, down a face that’s filled with pain, All the things she’s tried to accomplish, the times that she has failed, Her soul is torn and heavy, she faces the night again. She hears the telephone ringing, there’s someone at the door, If only she could shut out the world, her heart it hopes for more, She lifts her head, her voice is soft, “I’ll be ready soon!” She shakes her head to clear her thoughts, in all the awful gloom. The knocking’s getting louder, now there’s shouting at the door, She jumps a little at the sound; she knows what lies in store; Perhaps this time she’d let him knock, it didn’t matter much, She hated what he did to her, his dirty filthy touch. The things she had to do to him, to please him so he’d said, The many nights she lay in bed and wished that he were dead. She didn’t have the courage to turn the men away, She closed her eyes and thought of all the bills she has to pay. She picks up the telephone, and puts it to her ear, The voice at the other end, her eyes they fill with tears, The many years she’s hoped and longed, to hear her father say “It’s been so long, come home, my dear, I’m sorry you ran away!” She stares into the distance, unable to say a word, What would he say, if he only knew, she prayed he hadn’t heard “Oh, daddy, I’m so sorry, so stubborn I have been.” Her heart is torn and shattered by the life that she has seen. Her mind goes back to days long past, sitting on her daddy’s knee, Her knight in shining armour, she didn’t want him to see The shameful life that she now lived, many men by the score, Should she tell him, seek his forgiveness, her heart it is so torn. “Daddy, I must tell you, about the life I’ve claimed for me.” “I know, my child, I’ve seen you, and it breaks my heart to see.” “I’m coming home, dear daddy, now if that’s okay with you?” “Hurry, child, I miss you, and the others here do to.” She holds the telephone to her chest, the knocking at the door, Her eyes determined, her voice is strong; she won’t take any more, “I’d like a taxi, I’m going home, oh, my Daddy waits for me.” Her heart is pounding in her chest for the face she longs to see. The knocking it has ended, she rushes for the door, Her bag in hand, she flees the scene of a life she’ll live no more, And then she stands before him; she’s pulled close to his chest, She closes her eyes and says a prayer from a heart that’s now at rest Copyright ©2004 Aannee Miller All Rights Reserved
