Thought: Unity in the doctrines of belief, which seems to be the Protestant model for the Church Militant, is in practice impossible. In any system of believers, even down to two, there will be material heresy. (This is no special claim. I have no doubt that I am myself materially a heretic out of ignorance. For example, this whole post may be completely bogus.) Unity in ecclesiastical structure, however, is possible, as is unity in the sacrament of Holy Communion. These are the unities which the Holy Catholic Church professes. Her theological unity --- in this doctrine or that doctrine --- is a byproduct of these possible unities. However, theological unity is a corporate unity and not on each member possessing the actual whole deposit of faith. It builds on the common worship of God in the Mass and the common submission to ordained authority. Thoughts? Rebukes?
