Thoughts on Leadership 109 Why People Matter In Leadership VI -They multiply leadership Then the LORD said to Moses, “Gather before me seventy men who are recognized as elders and leaders of Israel...I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you, and I will put the Spirit upon them also. They will bear the burden of the people along with you, so you will not have to carry it alone. -Numbers 11:16-17 “A leader who produces other leaders multiples their influences. -John C. Maxwell Imagine what a nation would look like if there were no governors, ministers, local government chairmen, etc and the president was left alone to lead the entire nation. What if a big firm like Dangote Group had its Group MD directly overseeing all its operations all alone? The obvious result would be chaos and total collapse. Now you can understand why God encouraged Moses to multiply his leadership by anointing 70 elders to assist in settling disputes among his over 3 million Jewish people. The Word leverage is commonly used to describe this powerful and indispensable multiplier effect the right people can bring to a leadership. The first goal of leadership should be to raise leaders and create an inner circle that can give leadership that ripple effect that can produce more positive result than can ever be imagined. There can be nothing like delegation if there are no people. The leader would have to sweat it out alone and this is one of the most common causes of burnouts in leadership. People are important, especially trained people. The right people multiply influence and expedite the actualization of visions. Effective leaders place premium of developing their human resources than on anything else.
