Three important things about the Malaysia Airlines Boing 777 that crashed in Ukraine earlier today: First, most reports are that it was shot down. Second, there were American citizens on board. Third, initial indications are that the aircraft was flying at 33,000 feet when it was shot down. So what does this mean? At that altitude, odds are that was a military Air Defense asset that shot the aircraft down. Most shoulder fired missiles are not capable of reaching that altitude. That would point to Russia being involved. John McCain has already come out and said that if it was shot down by Russian military or separatists, there will be hell to pay. And the drums of war beat on... If the pilot was doing the right things, (and in that area, odds are that they were) it would be rather unusual for a military asset to accidentally shoot down a civilian airliner. The radar signature, altitude, speed, filed flight plan, and correct mode 3 codes should have been the indicators needed to prevent an accidental tragedy. So now, is this the needed catalyst to get the United States involved in another war? -Mosby
