Three months before my birth, on May 18, 1980 a massive volcanic - TopicsExpress

Three months before my birth, on May 18, 1980 a massive volcanic eruption occurred at Mount St. Helens. This major volcano located in Washington State spewed out thousands upon thousands of pounds of magma, rock, lava, and smoke. A huge crater formed on the north side of the mountain and over two billion dollars of damage was estimated. President Jimmy Carter called it a “moonscape”. The destruction was so great that it would be impossible for it to recover. These gloomy predictions were wrong. Within three years 90% of the ecosystem returned. It is now called the Mount St. Helens Volcanic Monument. Visitors can now drive to see twice and splendor and beauty of what it once was. All throughout Isaiah you see a picture of destruction, wrath, and justice. God’s anger didn’t relent. The sins of his people and their obstinate behavior to reject Him were in full. However, the landscape would be set for the coming of the Savior. You see that in Isaiah 9. That picture is not complete though. Isaiah 11 continues to describe the glorious nature of Christ. If God’s judgment is fierce, take a look at God’s mercy. On God’s Son there will be at a spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, strength, knowledge, fear, and delight. (vv.2-3) he will be Righteousness to the poor, Faithfulness to the faithless. (v.5) In His presence the wolf will dwell with the lamb, leopard with a goat, calf with a lion, cow with a bear, and a child with a viper. (vv.6-8) But it does not end there. There will be a day were the Son of God will reign over all nations and the people of Israel (with a remnant) will once again stand tall. (vv.111-12) This is Christ’s nature. That which was the “sin nature” was destroyed. God will resurrect and revive that which is more glorious in redemption. Today, over thirty years has passed. The blast zone on Mount St. Helens is now a “lushly treed forest”. Life teems through it all. New habitats are created and a new creation can be seen. That is like unto a life made new with Jesus Christ. Your life would be rid of you painful past, experiences, and hurts. Granted the crater would still be there, but new life would be teeming in soul and in your heart. A “lushly treed forest” would be bearing fruit and Christ’s power would be overflowing. You are more than a mess, you are a monument; a small sample size, for all to see the display of God’s work in your life. Open up, share the Gospel today; let someone see Christ’s monument in your life. #godlylegacy “On Christ’s glory I would fix all my thoughts and desires, and the more I see of the glory of Christ, the more the painted beauties of this world will wither in my eyes and I will be more and more crucified to this world. It will become to me like something dead and putrid, impossible for me to enjoy.” -Owen
