Three victims here. One was obviously the boy, who got thrown under a bus by his girlfriend and killed by her father as an intruder. The second was the father who got lied to by his daughter and led into killing someone he believed was an intruder. But the third is the daughter who was so scared by the situation that she lied, which led to her father shooting the boy. Clearly she was in the wrong. But why did she feel compelled to lie to the point of costing the boy his life? This is a clear example of how a kid can be terrified of the consequences of getting caught, but sometimes theyll still break the rules anyway. Its better to have a plan for that contingency than not. If I had a daughter, I would have a conversation with her about this very thing, same as I told my son. Yes, we have standards and rules in our house, and yes, you are expected to abide by them, but things will ALWAYS go better for you and for everyone else if you tell the truth up front, the first time. This is just a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the boys family for their loss and to the girl and her family for what they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.
