Three years ago today, my life changed forever. I didnt have a choice in what happened that night, but I do have a choice in what happens today. To my rapist (because so seldom are they addressed directly): I forgive you, but I have not lost my anger for injustice. I forgive you, but I will still fight for other women and myself. I forgive you, but I will not stop working towards a world with no rape. I forgive you, but you will not keep me down, bring me down, or have a hold on me whatsoever. I forgive you, but when I confront you in the future (and God-willing, I will), I pray it affects you to a degree that it takes deep self-reflection and an abundance of time to completely forgive yourself. Most importantly, though, I forgive you. For the Lord said, Don’t be angry with each other, but forgive each other. If you feel someone has wronged you, forgive them. Forgive others because the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13 To anyone suffering: Just remember - Weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5 There is hope. There is always hope. There is peace. You will find peace.
