Through a technological blip I cannot explain, today I inadvertently came across my first email exchange with Loved One from September 2003. It felt strangely illicit reading it, like a parent peering through the curtains to witness a daughter’s first kiss on the porch. We were at that witty, giddy, flirtatious stage; not the cold-ridden, work-weary, ‘what’s for dinner’ stage we’re at this week, even if the underlying tenderness has only grown. It was good to be reminded that I was once a little more scintillating around my man and that perhaps with a bit of effort I could be again.
