Throughout history, young artists have been condemned for raging against the machine. Few have been as vilified as rap artists. Crucified for violent, misogynistic lyrics, few critics look beyond what they personally find distasteful to see the root of the vitriol: pain, poverty and abuse. Growing up the way these young men did, what else did we expect them to write about?!? But to see someone so talented survive all the storms and destruction and EVOLVE and APOLOGIZE is truly amazing. Art is healing; forgiveness is salvation. Bravo, Marshall.
