Throwback Friday: Everybody loves trains…..This week we venture into the golden age of railroads in Bourne. I have a couple of classic photos from what appear to be the 1950’s-early 1960’s taken of the Buzzards Bay Rail yard. This is before the Canal Crossing Blimp was in service and Academy Drive was put in as we know it today and to access Taylor’s Point you crossed over a small bridge from the west rotary. The photo of the NY, NH & Hartford passenger unit pulling out of the station was apparently taken from that very bridge. The other photo shows a trio of Budd cars (self-propelled passenger cars) at the platform. Note that there are four sets of tracks at the station which shows just how busy it was. I hope you enjoy this look back in time and as always, “Let’s be careful out there.”
