Throwback Thursday: Guardians of the Galaxy will be the Hit Movie of 1979! It looks like Marvels TV and film losing streak may be over! While DC Comics has dominated the live-action comic book adaptation market with last years Superman, and the success of Wonder Woman on TV (not to mention Batman a decade ago), Marvel has had a rougher time. The Hulk is a hit for CBS, but Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Captain America didnt quite live up to expectations. Trust us: all that is about to change. We previewed the new GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie, and we think its going to blow Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica right out of the water! STEVEN SPIELBERG (Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind), who has already proven himself as a sci-fi and action director, is bringing us the ultimate in superhero sci-fi adventure. The fictional universe of Marvel Comics is huge, but characters like X-Men, The Avengers or Thor would NEVER succeed on the screen. So it was surprising that the publisher and 20th Century Fox took a risk on their relatively unknown team of heroes from the 31st Century, The Guardians of the Galaxy. The Guardians are a futuristic team of freedom fighters each genetically engineered to exist on different planets in our solar systems. As youll see in the movie, theyre from a war -torn reality where, as the last survivors of their worlds, theyre forced to unite against THE BADOON, a conquering race of space aliens that make Darth Vader look like Donny Osmond! In a clever twist, the name of their spaceship is The Captain America. What could be the connection to the shield-slinging legend of World War II? The cast is really what makes this film special. As the time-displaced young NASA hotshot VANCE ASTROVIK, disco superstar ANDY GIBB is the heart of the film, as he struggles to understand both his new-found superpowers and this dangerous new universe of the 31st Century. Weve never seen makeup special effects as amazing as this! Foxy PAM GRIER brings the tough sass as NIKKI, the hottest girl in planet Mercury! The special effects and alien creatures for this film are astounding. Youll love the scientist from Pluto, MARTINEX, and the noble warrior YONDU, from a primitive culture in the Alpha Centauri solar system. The make-up budget for this film must have been through the roof! Five time Mr. Universe champion and TV actor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER plays CHARLIE-27, the teams strongman from planet Jupiter. His line delivery isnt great, but MAYBE he could still become an action movie star some day. Possibly the oddest members of the team are STARHAWK and his wife ALETA, from Arcturus. They literally share one body - turning into each other back and forth. At least they cant argue about who takes out the garbage! LEE MAJORS (Six Million Dollar Man) and rock-n-roller DEBBIE HARRY of BLONDIE have great chemistry in these challenging roles. Humor, amazing superpowers, incredible outer-space action and drama - maybe comics arent just for kids anymore?
