Throwback Thursday here is an article from the Cal State LA - TopicsExpress

Throwback Thursday here is an article from the Cal State LA College (then) College Times about a rally on campus to generate support for the February 28, 1970 Chicano Moratorium. It quotes me and Bobby Elias of the moratorium committee speaking as well as Nacho Gonzalez and Frances Bojorquez for Mecha. I remember the rally, at first very few people were on hand and Saul Sancedo (then on the Student Council later President) was getting pissed at the students walking past, I told him to give me the mike and proceeded to use a more welcoming approach calling on students so come listen to whats happing in the barrios across the freeway about the war in Vietnam, the draft and the Chicano movement, and kept on in that vein for a few minutes and more came to listen. Frances was one of the few women spokespersons in the Mechas back then. The article appeared after the rally took place, but MECHA Cal State LA showed up in the pouring rain and raza women formed their own group Las Adelitas, many having left the Brown Berets, to march that day asserting themselves as equal activists in the movimiento!
