#ThrowbackThursday: Did you know that RSS Persistence successfully deterred a pirate attack on a merchant ship, just a day into sea operations? 5 years ago on 9 April 2009, RSS Persistence became the first ship to be deployed for counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden. Families and friends bid farewell as 240 of our personnel set sail on the Endurance-class Landing Ship Tank, which carried two Super-Puma helicopters. Patrolling the waters and guarding international shipping from pirate attacks were what our men and women did during their three-month-long tour of duty as part of the international Combined Task Force 151. Our brave men and women returned to a heartfelt reunion with families and friends on 31 July 2009. #SeaofSupport
