Thursday, 4 September 2014, Newport, Wales: British-based Ukrainians and other nationalities gathered in Newport to protest against Russian aggression in Ukraine and to call on the UK and other NATO members to support Ukraine with weapon supplies. In view of the increasing evidence of direct and open aggression from the Russian Federation’s armed forces in Mariupol, Donetsk Region of Ukraine, the activists called on the UK and other NATO members to provide practical assistance to the people of Ukraine and the Ukrainian military forces to resist the invasion. In particular, the United Kingdom and the EU must lift all existing embargoes on supply of protective military equipment to the Ukrainian Government. As the guarantor of the Ukraines sovereignty and territorial integrity under the Budapest Memorandum signed on 5th December, 1994, the UK must help Ukraine and provide personal protection equipment to the Ukrainian soldiers (such as helmets, bullet proof vests and winter uniforms) and support Ukrainian Ministry of Health in providing medical treatment to military personnel and civilians from the Eastern Ukraine with severe injuries.
