Thursday, August 1 MEMORIAL OF ALPHONSUS LIGUORI, BISHOP, DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH From here to God The space between God and us can seem vast at times. In the Book of Leviticus Moses is instructed to set up a special place for a Divine Encounter: this “tent of meeting” is described for six intricate chapters! But you don’t need to recreate that well-defined space to meet the God we’ve come to know in Jesus. Alphonsus Liguori recommended a greater informality: “Acquire the habit of speaking to God as if you were alone with him . . . as to the dearest and most loving of friends. Speak to him often of your business, your plans, your troubles, your fears—of everything that concern you.” Just talk: God is listening!
