Thursday Notice – August 15, 2013 Dear Parents, I’m taking the opportunity to send out this pre-school notice on the Feast of Our Blessed Mother. It’s been quite busy at school, teachers coming in and out, Hugo putting the finishing touches on the building, Mrs. Quintal getting the records up to date. Also I’ve been remiss in thanking Meghan Lind, a member of our P.R. Committee, who is responsible for creating our new school logo. Thank you very much, Meghan it’s what I’ve envisioned for a long time. This week, Mrs. Ordway and I attended a meeting at the CSO in Braintree concerning a new program for evaluating schools. It’s called Instructional Rounds. We are one of 16 schools to spear head this program in the Archdiocese. Throughout the summer several teachers participated in an online Religion Course given by Boston College. The present course is entitled “Teaching Religion”. Yesterday evening, we held a meeting with those middle school parents and students who have been chosen to begin our new “accelerated” math program taught by Ms. Bryant. The information given was well received and I’m sure this will be an excellent addition to our curriculum. I’m continuing to look for a language person, given the amount of time we are offering. I’ve spoken to several principals who have been in this position regarding part time language teachers and they’ve given me some good ideas. The HHS Chorus is putting on a production of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” and they are in need of several young actors to fill the following parts: 1. Tiny Tim = Is in one scene / Says one Line “God bless us everyone” / Sings a solo / Boy soprano / Should look grade 2 or 3 2. Young Scrooge = Should look grade 4-6 / No lines / Sings a solo / Boy soprano / Some movement during song 3. Street Urchins = ½ dozen / mixed gender / grades 2 – 8 / sing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” 4. Chief Urchin = Grade 3 – 8 / Several Lines / 2 scenes / ability to do a cockney accent a plus 5. Man’s Children – Ignorance & Want = 2nd. Grade / Thin / No lines / One scene 6. Young Crotchets = 2 kids/ 1boy & 1 girl / 3rd. or 4th. Grade / 2 scenes / Several Lines / 2 Songs – not solos Auditions will be held on Wednesday October 2nd. In the HHS Auditorium. We will be rehearsing on that day from 2:15 - 4:15 and will audition the students whenever they are able to arrive after school that day up until 4:15pm. You do not need to prepare anything for the audition. We will have materials for you to read & / or sing. Should you have any questions, please, e-mail me at HHS - - - Joe Gori Again I want to welcome our new families. It seems that we receive a call every day for either the Early Childhood Center or the main school. This year our own custodian has registered his two children in our school. So, I do hope you’re enjoying these last days of summer and that we’ll see you on Wednesday, August 28th for the first day of school for K-8. There is an Open House on Monday, August 26th from 6:30 -7:30 at the main school for new families and Kindergarten and another Open House at the ECC on Tuesday, September 3rd from 12:00-2:30 or 5:00 to 6:00. Mark your calendars for the opening social Thursday, September 5th from 5:30 – 7:00. Come enjoy a Piece of P.I.E. See you then, Carol Simone Principal
