Thursday, October 3, 2013 Standings tighten in All Star league play By Chuck Rankin Stoneburner’s Grocery won its match over Oxford Mining, cutting Oxford’s league lead down to one game in the Lancaster All Star League at Tiki Lanes last Thursday evening. Ricketts Excavating and Orange Carpet Lounge trail Oxford by a game, and Stoneburner’s closed to within a game and a half. Stoneburner’s Grocery overcame a close loss in the first game to rally back and defeat Oxford Mining, 2-1. Both teams struggled in the first game, with Oxford hanging on for a slim six-pin win. Stoneburner’s bounced back take the second game riding a pair of fourbaggers by Dustin Mohler. Mendy Willoughby’s nine-strike 256 gave Stoneburner’s an easy victory in the third game to win the match. Mohler led Stoneburner’s Grocery with 616. John Boyle led the way for Oxford Mining. Ricketts Excavating knocked off Mickey’s Bar and Grill, 2-1, moving a game closer to Oxford Mining. The Excavators won the first game easily, but the two teams were never far apart after that. Mickey’s got a late double from Karen Morris to lock up a close victory in the second game. Bill Becker’s four strikes-and-nine finish helped Ricketts escape with a close win in the last game. Becker was high roller for Ricketts Excavating. Morris tossed 634 to lead Mickey’s Bar and Grill. Orange Carpet Lounge had no trouble beating its average for a 3-0 victory. The shutout moved Orange Carpet into a tie for second place with Ricketts Excavating. Dave Starkey set the tone of the match early, tossing a ten-strike 259 on his way to a 678 series. Shirley G. Connor Agency downed Industrial Quality Services, 2-1. The teams traded lopsided victories in the first and last games. John Bossone’s 254 game led IQS to a triple digit victory in the opener, and Connor Agency cruised to an easy win in the last game behind Mitch Faulkner’s 257. The second game was close all the way, and was not decided until Erin Faulkner finished with the last six strikes in a row to give Connor Agency the slim victory. Shirley G. Connor Agency had Mitch Faulkner shooting 640. Bossone topped Industrial Quality Services with 694. Citi Bar lost to Lucky’s Bar, 2-1. The two teams traded triple digit wins in the last two games, but the first game was close all the way. Joe Austin was the hero for Lucky’s in the opener, finishing with a fivebagger-and-spare to lock up the victory. Austin led the scoring for Lucky’s Bar, and Michael Fryer was high roller for Citi Bar. THE STANDINGS: Oxford Mining, 10-5; Ricketts Excavating, Orange Carpet Lounge, 9-6; Stoneburner’s Grocery, 8.5-6.5; Shirley G. Connor Agency, 8-7; Lucky’s Bar, 7.5-7.5; Industrial Quality Services, 7-8; Citi Bar, 6-9; Mickey’s Bar and Grill, 4-11.
