Thursday Trivia Answer! There was an interesting article about Gus, the larger monkey, in the August 2, 1955 edition of The Evening Telegram entitled DRAGNET AT THE PARK! Someone is monkeying around with the monkeys at Bowring Park. Yesterday someone cut the heavy wire on the cage of the two monkeys and Gus and his little friend scrambled out and up into the trees. They enjoyed their freedom and while park attendants coaxed and climbed trees to get them, the little fellows screeched happily and swung from branch to branch and from tree to tree. But Gus the larger of the monkeys, is a sucker for bananas. Park Superintendent, Harry Hamlyn got a bunch of the biggest bananas he could find and put them in the cage. Like a shot Gus was in after them and quick as a wink the cage door was closed. Guss friend didnt go for the same bait. Hes still at large, swinging through the parks trees. But well catch him yet, Mr. Hamlyn said this morning. Hes only a little fellow and he can do no harm. Its a good thing we caught Gus. Hes grown into quite a monkey and is very likely to bite or scratch someone. (In case you are wondering, the smaller monkey was named Josephine.)
