“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in - TopicsExpress

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10) This is part of what a lot of people call the LORD’s Prayer or the Model Prayer. Whatever one wishes to call it, here, Jesus teaches us how to pray. This is the beginning of the petitions that Jesus uses to teach us to pray, and in this petition, we see the arch of God’s work in sinful humanity. That work is having His will done here on this sin filled earth. This is a prayer asking the Father, “Thy kingdom come.” Some scholars note that the Jewish people had a prayer that that asked for the Kingdom of the Messiah to come, but Jesus states that we are to pray that the Father’s Kingdom come. While they are one and the same kingdom, the difference that should be noted is that Jesus is the Messiah and He came and set up His Kingdom. So, there is no need to pray for the Messiah to come set up His Kingdom. If anyone has a problem thinking that the Messiah’s Kingdom is not already set up; listen to what the Bible says, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son” (Colossians 1:13). This kingdom is a spiritual kingdom that is with His people. Jesus said, “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you” (Luke 11:20). Notice the idea that develops of the Kingdom of Jesus and the victory over satanic powers. It is a freedom from satanic power in temptation and satanic pressure to conform and do things the way the world does them. When we feel we have to sell out our Christianity and do things we know God does not want us to do to live, we are not living in His kingdom the way we should. Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). Do not sell out to this world system and do not give in to temptation! You are only a pilgrim here (Hebrew 11:14-17)! This world is not your home so stop trying to feel at home in it! Like the old Stamps-Baxter song that goes: This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through; My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door, And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore. This prayer is a prayer to have this Kingdom to be lived more and more in our lives until Jesus wraps up this reality, and we begin to enjoy eternal life with Him. But until then… Let us pray for the coming of His Kingdom that will be set up at the end of time and let us live like we are supposed to live because, we are already in His Kingdom!
