Tie off, boots on....I have to hit the road for more calls but we won our court case this morning during pre-trial and wanted to give a brief update! We will share more about this case later with the intent of providing public education as to how we interpret and enforce the laws where we are appointed in Union County. Thomas Andy Dague has been found GUILTY on two counts of cruelty towards companion animals this morning in Marysville Municipal Court. Andy Dague was sentenced to 60 days in jail and a $1,000 fine with the jail time and $500 of the fine suspended, three years of probation and is prohibited from owning pets. His animals who have been under the watchful care of our partners at UCHS will be placed up for adoption (through UCHS, please contact them regarding adoption of these two) ORC 959.131: No person who confines or who is the custodian or caretaker of a companion animal shall negligently do any of the following: Deprive the companion animal of necessary sustenance, confine the companion animal without supplying it during the confinement with sufficient quantities of good, wholesome food and water, or impound or confine the companion animal without affording it, during the impoundment or confinement, with access to shelter from heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, or excessive direct sunlight, if it can reasonably be expected that the companion animal would become sick or suffer in any other way as a result of or due to the deprivation, confinement, or impoundment or confinement in any of those specified manners.
