Time for Swaziland editors to stand up and be counted Am I the only one getting a bit tired by the hand-wringing by the editors at the Swazi Observer and Times of Swaziland regarding the Bheki Makhubu and Thulani Maseko case? They say they support freedom of the press and that the two men should be set free. But, they do nothing about it. Here’s a practical suggestion. The editors at the Observer and the Times should reproduce in their newspapers the articles from the Nation magazine that Chief Justice Michael Ramodibedi says are a contempt of court. Once that is done, the editors will be in the same boat as Makhubu and Maseko. Then the Swazi state would have to arrest every editor in the kingdom and prosecute them for contempt of court. Or, alternatively, it would have to set the two men free. Imagine the outcry in Swaziland and across the world if every newspaper editor in the land was in jail. Come on Swazi editors take a stand.
