Time for Thursday HERstory!!!! I know it is Friday but I had 2 sick boys at home. Please forgive me for the delay. I find myself a little sad that football season is over, but did you know that Decatur had its very on semi pro football team. Yes!!! The Rough Riders. They had a 66-2 record over a 7 season period. In the first 3 seasons, they didnt let an opponent score even one point. The team consisted of: Walter Jones, Curtis Miller, Willie White, Kenneth Reedus, Harold Crayton, Floyd Jones, Ronnie Chatmon, Jessie Goodloe, Charlie French, John Sykes, Joe F. Robinson, Joe Porter, Louis Coger, John Webb, John Lewis, Leo Gray, Leon Johnson, William Vaughn, Travis Williams, Robert Daniel, Robert Abernathy, Robert Goodloe, Clarence Saxton, Cleveland Jarmon, Jimmy Faulk, Kenneth Westmoreland, Fernando Outlaw, Bobby Moseley, Billy Brown, Bobby Qualls, Lafayette (last name not available), Houston Hardy, Bobby Cain, Johnnie Thompson and Newlyn Matthews. they were Coached by Cashin Wheeler... who we will learn more about next week.
