Time is a continuous stream that resists any human attempt to freeze it and observe the world at that given “point” in time. We mankind have always been amazed by this concept and try to understand events around us as if it too were flowing elegantly along with time. We make causal relations and link certain events with others, saying this caused that, which caused this and so on and so forth. Some call this a narrative and we are all guilty of doing it. Now, certain recent events have seriously disturbed my narrative and makes me wonder if there’s a steep cliff coming up ahead. Russia snubs Europe and signs oil deals with China and Turkey in exchange for gold. Ukraine, in conflict with Russia, hauls off almost all of its gold secretly into the US. Saudi sells oil on the cheap bringing down the Russian economy. Libya had all its gold forced out, leaving the country in chaos. Add to that, you have many countries- including the Netherlands, drawing back its gold reserves from the US. What do these mean for us, especially the Muslim world? For one, the US is no longer the superpower it was. Secondly, and crucially, we he an Anti-Assad and a Pro-Assad forming an alliance which can have serious consequences not just on Syria, but on Iran, Hizbollah and Hamas. And that leads to the Palestinian Issue. To me, a free Palestine will be the consequence of peace in the Middle East, not the other way around. We cant have an independent Palestine if everywhere around it is in chaos. Now you may ask, “Why bother yourself with these big issues?” ‘We were born, we live, we die’. Sarmad had a fitting reply for that- There was uproar and we opened our eyes from the eternal sleep. Saw that the night of wickedness endured, so we slept again. #MH17 #CANTSLEEPWHENCHILDRENARESLAUGHTERED
