Time to get a slight head start on Day 8. A singer of the past - TopicsExpress

Time to get a slight head start on Day 8. A singer of the past (retired by 1945) whom I think everyone should know. For me, that would be the other great Rosa...Rosa Raisa. A dramatic soprano who also had great agility, she sang a wide range of roles -- Aida, Mefistofele (Margherita, of course ;-) ), Maddalena di Coigny, Rachel. Toscanini had the highest admiration for her and chose her to be the first Turandot at La Scala. Her versatility was such that when Il Trittico was first given in Chicago, she sang, not Giorgetta, but was the first Suor Angelica. What I would have given to have heard that! The first selection is here because everyone needs to hear another Vespri Bolero. :-) Does she get carried away with the trills? Probably..but I dont care..its a blast to hear, all the liberties and all. youtu.be/_0cDP73-HpM
