Tina Ferris, Si Perkoff, Mike McKenzie and Steve Webber Facility: The Tamalpais Date: 9/25/13 Host: Arthur Javier Essence Story by Arthur Javier: Tina Ferris has a soothing voice that everyone loved as she started with Jerome Kearnes, ‘All the Things You Are’. This quartet seemed to have a synergy with all their tunes. Si Perkoff in his genius on the piano, Steve who is a master on the base and Mike who was equally great with his snare drum. This venue reminded me of a small, intimate concert in a jazz cafe. They applauded every song Tina sang. This was Tina’s first performance with Bread and Roses and she was excellent. Many of the tunes they played came from the Great American Songbook. Si played the piano that sounded like all the great pianists our time – Andre Previn, Peter Nero, Oscar Peterson, Errol Garner, Frankie Carl and many more. Steve, who played the base, was unbelievable using his bow to accent the notes. Mike is another gifted drummer who has been playing for a long time. What I found out was this group of musicians just came together not too long ago and they sounded like they had playing for quite a while. Members of the audience enjoyed the songs like ‘Ain’t Misbehaving’, ‘St. Louie Blues’, ‘You’ve Changed’, ‘The Very Thought of You’, and came to thank each one of them for coming and sharing their music. Some asked me if the quartet had ever been to the Tamalpais and I told them this was the first time Tina had performed there. === We’d love to hear how you felt about the show.
