Tioronda Mansion also known as Craig house in Beacon, New York was built for General Joseph Howland, a Civil War Hero in 1859 and designed by Architect, Frederick Clarke Withers. Additions to the House were added in 1872 and designed by Richard Morris Hunt, nephew of Gen Howland. In 1915, Howlands Widow donated her estate to be used as a Private Psychiatric Hospital. It functioned as a high class sanitarium for 80 years. Its guests included such notables as Zelda Fitzgerald, Rosemary Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Gleason. In 2003 it was purchased by Art Collector, John L Stewart and planned to develop a small residential development as of 2011 it was still vacant and rumored to be haunted.
