Tip of the Day: Teaching your dog tricks: When I first got into dog training I thought teaching a dog tricks was silly and pointless. Well, I now have a much different opinion. Teaching tricks is a wonderful way to bond with your dog. It can also be a good form of exercise believe it or not. I like the bonding that happens because to train a trick you need to work together as a team to accomplish the ultimate goal. Also with training tricks, it can really only be done in a positive fashion. This helps build that relationship between the human and its dog. Tricks are a good form of mental stimulation. When you get into doing harder tricks, it really works the dogs brain to try and figure out what it has to do to get the reward. A cool thing that you can do is teach tricks, and then start to put them together. An example would be: -Teach your dog to pick up the newspaper. -Toss the paper and have your dog retrieve it. -Teach your dog how to go out and grab the newspaper and bring it back to you.
