Tip of the Week: 2013 and Below: Find out what health services has to offer. This is a great time of year to take advantage of benefits available to you as a college student. Many university health service centers offer free flu shots or other vaccines. 2014: Use your time wisely. The world we live in today offers a lot of opportunity for distraction. Don’t spend hours each night on Facebook, Twitter, or playing video games. Now is the time to diligently be working on your college admission essays and applications. 2015: Start Brainstorming. Building a well-rounded college list is the most important thing you can do to begin an effective college selection process. Use resources (the Internet, Springboard, friends, family) to begin your research. 2016 & Above: Think like an admissions counselor. Assume you are the admissions counselor for a university, and you are responsible for selecting the best students for your college. How would you identify the best students for your school? Beyond grades and test scores, what would make a student stand out in your opinion? Make a list and talk with your parents, teachers, and school counselor to develop a plan of action so you can accomplish those items on your list.
