Tipperary childcare facilities are to receive €77,883 through the 2014 Early Years Capital programme. The funding was announced by Junior Minister for Children and Youth Affairs James Reilly and was welcomed by Minister Alan Kelly and Deputy Noel Coonan. “This funding will be used for repair and maintenance works, and to upgrade current facilities,” said Deputy Coonan. “Some of the facilities to benefit from the funding announced today include Templemore Community Services Centre Ltd, Nenagh Childcare Centre Ltd, St Sheelan’s Community Childcare Services and Ballingarry (Thurles) Community Development Ltd. This money will prove hugely beneficial to local families whose children have been using these facilities,” he said. The grants will be used for repairs, refurbishment and improving energy ratings. Priority was given to areas of economic disadvantage and places most in need of assistance. “Many community childcare facilities were built with State investment but are now over 10 years old, with issues emerging in terms of repair, maintenance and upgrade. These must now be addressed and investments like this will ensure that childcare services can continue to be provided in appropriate and safe facilities,” said Minister Kelly. Nationally, €2.5m in capital funding has been allocated to 163 childcare providers, and highlights highlights the Government’s commitment to supporting community services. The following are the organisations in Tipperary that will benefit as a result of the scheme: Templemore Community Services Centre Ltd, €7,709; Nenagh Childcare Centre Limited, €15,766; Newtown Community Playgroup, €16,004; St Sheelan’s Community Childcare Service Ltd, €3,200; Barnardos, €4,200; Ballingarry (Thurles) Community Development Ltd, €20,165; Clonmel Resource Centre Ltd, €10,839.
