Tips and tricks for dealing with allergies naturally with no meds; includes clickable web links. 1. Vacuum at least every other day with a high suction vacuum that has a built in HEPA filter. An example of a vacuum that has a HEPA filter is a Shark Navigator which is very good vacuum. I have one. amazon/Shark-Navigator-Deluxe-Edition-Lightweight/dp/B004UR971C/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Here are links to other vacuums with HEPA filters. air-n-water/hepa-vacuum-cleaners.htm and allergybuyersclub/hepa-vacuum-cleaners.html 2. Dust at least every other day with a Swiffer duster or natural dust spray and microfiber towels. Do not use commercial sprays or paper towels. Commercial sprays have carcinogens inside which irritate allergies and paper towels leave lint dust in the air. onegoodthingbyjillee/2014/01/all-natural-diy-dusting-spray.html I have used this recipe but instead of the Lemon Essential Oil I use a tablespoon of Lemon Juice. 3. Place a pet friendly, easy growing plant in each room. Plants that are good to have are Spider Plant, Gerber Daises, Bamboo Palm, Bamboo, Cactus, and Aloe. Aloe should be up off the ground and is good for burns. Some cats may be sensitive to Aloe plants. wikihow/Care-for-a-Spider-Plant gerbera.org/care/gerbera-daisy-plant-care/ ehow/how_2037791_care-bamboo-palm.html wikihow/Care-for-an-Indoor-Bamboo-Plant ask/explore/how-care-indoor-cactus-plant aloeplant.info/treat-your-aloe-as-you-would-like-your-aloe-to-treat-you/ 4. Use a high grade furnace filter in your HVAC unit. The link is to the best filter that I have found. It last 3 months. amazon/dp/B005F5D3RW/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2X65L3ZXGLQXJ&coliid=I2QPDQED3ZJHHT&psc=1 5. Place regular lighter fluid free charcoal briquets in baskets inside of your heater furnace closet, around pet areas, and mold areas. Use baskets that are easy to clean, not whicker. Wash baskets monthly. Replace charcoal every three months. You can also put plain baking soda in bowls wherever you put the charcoal. walmart/ip/Kingsford-Original-Charcoal-Twin-Pack-13.9-lb-Bags/16594881 6. Run your stoves hood vent every time you cook, it will pull the moisture and smells out of the air. Also, run your bathroom exhaust fan during and for 15 minutes after a shower or bath to cut down on mold. Spray your shower with a mold reducing spray directly after getting out and remember to close the curtain and/or doors to reduce moisture in the folds or between doors. You can buy one for around $5 at most pet stores in the reptile section. petsmart/reptile/humidity-temperature-controls/grreat-choice-hygrometer-zid36-5198839/cat-36-catid-500012?_t=pfm%3Dsearch Petsmart does carry cheaper ones, but this is what I found easily. Humidity should be 35-50% to reduce mite reproduction and 40-60% to help reduce nasal dryness. Humidity amounts of 70% or higher greatly raise the possibility of mold. Warm mist humidifiers make the surrounding air feel warmer, cool mist humidifiers make the surrounding air feel cooler. Moister air feels warmer while dryer air feels colder, when using a humidifier or de-humidifier, you will need to adjust your thermostat up or down 3-5 degrees. Before spending the money on a de-humidifier, try charcoal in the rooms with high humidity. De-humidifiers are not cheap. Humidifiers arent too pricey, the two I have are here: walmart/ip/Vicks-Warm-Steam-Vaporizer-V150SG2UPC/15423529 for my bedroom as it is for small rooms and walmart/ip/Vicks-Warm-Mist-Humidifier/29765912 for the living room, as it is for larger rooms. I havent personally used a cool mist or ultrasonic humidifier. But here are some decent priced ones: walmart/ip/Vicks-V3100-Cool-Mist-Humidifier/21011464 and walmart/ip/pureguardian-10-Hour-Ultrasonic-Humidifier-Blue/21805093. De-humidifier: walmart/ip/Frigidaire-ENERGY-STAR-70-Pint-Dehumidifier-FAD704DWD/22863050. Essential oils that can be used in humidifiers are: Tea Tree Oil for mold, cold, and allergy relief (not to be used if you have cats); Eucalyptus Oil for cold and allergies; Lavender for mold, cold, allergies and to aid with sleep. I will add more later. Only about 20 drops per gallon are needed. 9. A room purifier with a HEPA filter will filter out spores, mites, dust, etc. I run one in my room at night with the door shut on low or med. This is the one I have: walmart/ip/Kaz-Inc-50250-S-Allergen-Remover-Air-Purifier/5130782 I also occasionally run it in the living room with the bedroom door shut on med or high as it is rated for up to 390 sq ft. It is not as loud as some of the reviews say. On low I do not have to adjust the tv volume, on med it goes up about 10 levels, and on high it goes up about 20 levels. Whole house purifiers can be installed in your HVAC unit for around $400. 10. In areas of standing water such as a leaky basement, you can use plain clay cat litter to dry it up. This kind of litter is like $4 for a 20 lb. Bag. Wear a dust mask so you dont breathe in the clay dust, shovel the moist litter into a trash can or bucket that has a good seal and is lined with a trash bag. Dispose of asap so the moisture in the litter doesnt create a mold problem. You can also use a wet vac to get the litter up. 11. Himalayan Salt Lamps can purify the air, reduce allergens, and reduce mold. Here are the ones I have: amazon/gp/product/B00EQB1EEK/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This size is good for up to 324 sq ft. Size chart: himalayansaltshop/salt-lamp-size-chart.html 12.
