Tips on Interior Spaces. The space under the stairs is mostly left as such but if you use your little creativity and give wings to your imagination, you could use this space in different ways. Storage: The best use of this space is none other than using it as a storage space. Make drawers either vertically or horizontally and in all these drawers you could keep shoes, seasonal clothes, and fitness equipment’s. As and when the guests arrive and you have no time to clean your space, you could just throw all the unused and waste things in these drawers and thus get a clutter free and clean space in no time. Powder room: If the space beneath the stairs is slightly more than you could also consider converting it into a powder room. Though, yes, there would be issues like plumbing but with careful planning you could overcome them and get a powder room in the available place. This would again be time saving if you have a duplex flat and you have to rush to the bathroom on the first floor every time. Laundry area: If you do not have a service area where you could keep the washing machine, you could well store them beneath the stairs by converting the available space into the laundry area. You could either hang a curtain or could even have a door to hide your washing machine behind it. Library: If you are an avid book reader but do not find a space where you could find solace and the right ambience, let me tell you, the space under the stairs is no less than heaven for the library. Place your bookshelf (If you have) or get shelves installed and make your own mini home library. Add a comfy chair or a small bed and you are ready to enjoy your favorite reading session. Pet house: I simply love this idea of getting a pet house under the stairs. Perforate the stair case and create an enclosed space for your pet. Here you could keep the pet bed and thus gift him his own den. Seating nook: bring in a nook like seating area and fill in the space under the stairs. Or you could even place a coffee table. Home office: create a working station under stairs. Place a table and fill the space with the right office furniture and create a small office in your home den. Bedroom: every time you have guests which come to your place and you feel shortage of one bed. If you have this space under stairs use it and create a separate cozy place for your guests. Reading nook: enjoy reading your favorite book in your private reading nook which you created in the space under the stairs. Extended kitchen: if the stairs in your home are adjacent to the kitchen and there is a space, use this space and make an extended kitchen. You could well place the electrical appliances like refrigerator, oven and thus make your kitchen look spacious. :-)
