Tired from shoveling snow and everything else that goes with - TopicsExpress

Tired from shoveling snow and everything else that goes with getting ready for and riding out a storm (not as bad as I thought it was gong to be). But there is the nice part, that comes from being tired from hard work, sitting beside a nice wood stove, with the snow coming down outside the window, knowing you get to take off your coveralls, and stay inside for the night, with the wood pile stacked, critters fed, and the world around you is quite and still, other than the occasional breeze spinning the wind turbines. Thoughts go back to memories of stories told by those who were very old when I was very young. Before Internet, before TV, when radios werent very portable because they still all had vacuum tubes, and where things some people had. How they would spend winter nights gathered around the radio listening to story hour, or the latest news or some good music. Before radio, people tended to make their own music, the stories were ones often handed down over the generations. Good weather was a time for things like a hay ride, were people would bring banjos, accordions, dulcimers, and most people joined in the singing. Story tellers would come in after the music, where peoples hands and voices and, maybe legs from dancing, would be tired, and children would sit around the fire listening to long stories told by the story tellers while fathers tended the horses and mothers the dishes, and young couples tended the stars in the night sky. It was a different way of living back then, not so long ago, yet seeming like a world away. So I sit by my fire, remembering the colors of years gone by. Of the time of clean rains, deep blue skies, wild places and forests that felt like they went on forever.... The world may not be this way now, radioactive waste in our oceans, pale blue skis, clear cut and paved landscapes. But the good part of knowing this, is knowing how the world can be, if we only try. Good Knight World. ~Tree
