Tis the season for firsts. For those who dont know my story, I lost my husband 1/31/13 to lung cancer at age 40. For the full story, visit caringbridge.org/visit/michaelmcdill. He never smoked so dont ask. So today was a big day. Sydney, our daughter, played her first basketball game of the season at St. Gabriels. This was the season Mike loved. He looked forward to games and watching the Sydney Doodle dash down the court and score. One of the last moments we shared with Mike earlier this year was watching Syds final basketball game. Thanks for his friends Mike G. and Scotty, we got him there despite just being discharged from the hospital the day prior. He entered the gym in a wheelchair but damnit he was there. Wouldnt have missed it. So you can understand - I hope - that today was particularly difficult for me. I about had an anxiety attack just walking in the gym. But, as a Superwoman does, I pulled it together with the help of mom and dad and some good friends. Puffy eyes, hanky in hand and looking like crap I got it over with. The first basketball game without him. As we enter the holiday season, there will be more firsts to look forward to...but somehow, someway the good Lord will pull me through.
