HEROES OF CARDINGTON Darkness of a field at night Searchlights aimed at ship Silver lines of beauty Engulf your eyes You look but do not believe What your vision is showing This is not a dream my friend It’s in the past but real A ship of the air A mighty site Looks so powerful riding the mast Elegant lines flow from nose to stern Engine nacelles continue the theme Such vastness of structure Lighter than air But strongly built Past mistakes rectified New mistakes made A ship to dream about A ship also to have knight mares about As looking back at History you do not just see the beauty You see the horror How such a vessel can be reduced so fast To smouldering wreck How young men face a terrible fate at the hands of fires fury Such bravery of airship men will be remembered Honored These are the Heroes of Cardington Their Names will live forever We will honor their bravery forever We will never forget them A POEM BY T MONK
