To All in DoDDS-Europe, At the end of May, I wrote to you to inform you of our plans for teacher furlough days. With appreciation for the impact the furlough and school closure will have on our communities, the DoDDS-Europe District Superintendents have been discussing the planned dates with installation leaders. As a result of this exchange, we believe we are able to accommodate community priorities and are ready to finalize the dates of school closure as follows: •Friday, August 30th - this will correspond to planned military training days and permit family holidays. •Monday, September 9th •Monday, September 16th •Monday, September 23rd •Monday, September 30th The change to the dates outlined in my earlier email is the move of the teacher furlough day originally scheduled for Friday, September 6, to Monday September 30, to avoid disruptions to high school schedules and to eliminate any conflicts for the athletic teams that will travel on Friday, September 6. Schools will be closed for instruction on these dates. The school year will begin as scheduled on August 26. The furlough dates for the schools at Bahrain, AFNORTH and SHAPE, whose school year schedules are different from the other DoDDS-Europe schools, are being determined locally by the principals and district superintendents. I echo the words of Ms. Fitzgerald when she told us about the furlough. This is a very difficult time for all of the Department of Defense and DoDEA employees, our students and our families. We deeply regret that we have to take this step. I am proud to serve alongside all of you and thank you again for all you do in support of education for DoD dependent children. Enjoy your well-deserved summer recess. _____________________ Dr. Nancy C. Bresell Director, DoDDS-Europe DSN: 314-338-7614 From US: 49-611-380-7614
