To Defeat your Enemy is to Know Your Enemy Scripture Reading Your enemy . . . prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith - (1 Peter 5:8-9).. Thoughts for Today Then George Whitefield arrived in Boston, one of that citys prominent ministers told him, I am very sorry to see you come to Boston, Mr. Whitefield. The great evangelist replied, So is the devil, sir. There is a real enemy at work in our world. He is the same enemy who has been at work throughout the ages. He tries to bring sorrow, heartache, and havoc to the hearts and minds of Gods greatest saints, but he is a defeated foe. Though many have faced extreme difficulty and stress—sometimes to the point of death—all have gained eternal victory because of the life, death, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. There are many instances in the bible that our God has taught us the importance of prayer to defeat our enemies. Indeed, he reminded us to pray without ceasing. Meaning to say, if we regularly pray the spirit of God dwells within us. However, when we are not the spirit of darkness will overwhelm and consume our desires. Have you ever taught why the Catholic Church has endured so many centuries in its existence? Taking aside that the founder of this Church is no other than Christ himself when He declared to Peter the very foundation and the authority to govern the temporal affairs of the Church, there is something that we must have to learn and discover from within. The Church endures because they are praying as one. The Liturgy of the Hours being prayed regularly by the Pope is the same prayer being prayed by the bishops, priests, religious and the laity around the world. In unison, they all pray as one Church that makes the Catholic Church powerful in all the attacks against its people and all its teachings by other denominations. As Jesus said, I will be with you until the end of time. If we are one with the Catholic Faith, let us be united with the Church and the Pope in praying regularly the Liturgy of the Hours. Visit the divineoffice.org to learn more and to find the Liturgy of the Hours or the Divine Office. The first step to defeating your enemy is to know your enemy. To know the truth about him is to know the evil forces within us. The evil will use our weaknesses if we are not aware of it and when we do not have the discipline to overcome them. Be aware of the 7 Capital Sins which are the tools of the devil to conquer us. You can overcome all these evil tendencies within us if we are aware of them and if we regularly pray to God. Hence, God admonishes us to pray without ceasing in order not to enter into temptation of the devil. Also know the truth about his fate: He is a defeated foe! Prayer: Our Loving Heavenly Father, thank You for defeating Satan. I thank You that he is a defeated foe. I pray you will strengthen me to stand firm when he comes against me through my regular prayer, particularly being one with the Church through the Divine Office. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen. Have a Blessed Thursday and Weekend with your Family, and God Bless you.
