To all Members of HFRRF, I just saw on L-341s website several emails of correspondence between BSE and myself along with the funds Chief Legal Officer. One email talks about AVL time for the Chair, which we see under this agreement between the Union and the COH is not going to take place because the Union feels I am a benefit ,not an assignment. The second email states that the Funds statute requires a Trustee (Chair ) to be off to attend meetings, well all that is fine and good as long as those meetings occur while I am the Fund. If I am at the fire station and receive a call that I am needed in Austin to testify against a Bill , we all know that getting a substitute member sometime during the day is practically impossible. Who suffers at that point, all of us. I have received calls in the past to get to Austin within a 4 hour window to address a bill in front of the lawmakers that would be heard that day. My ability to get off from the fire station at noon, one , two oclock is definitely hampered , waiting on a member to arrive to replace me and then still get there in time . So the most common sense answer is not to place the Chair of HFRRF in that position. I see nothing worse for the membership and their families than missing an opportunity to express non support of a Bill because I couldnt get off from the fire station in time. That is catastrophic in my opinion. BSE can say what he wants but the bottom line is this, he has never testified in Austin against any type of pension legislation and his actions are placing me as the Chair in a position to where I could miss an important chance to help stop a Bill that would be very negative for our members. The members will have the last say on this, my response to this issue is simple, just take the time to vote and vote no to protect your retirement security. My very best, Todd Clark.
