To all batchmates of Abellana National School (ANS) 1989: The issues raised and the situations presented are never problems, but realities in life. It is for these reasons that the batch adopted the theme, “Moving On, Reaching Out”, for its 25th/ Silver Anniversary Celebration. A better question worthy of germane answers is, “Will I be able to recognize the look of a batchmate and what he has become 25 years after graduation?” Clearly, this is just one of the many questions that every member of the batch longs to know, far better than extracting answers for the issues raised and the situations presented. The reason of marking the momentous occasion is for batchmates to gather as one, to share experiences and opportunities, to establish networks and to revitalize esprit de corps, and to mutually help and support each other in this ever-challenging world. The imperfections and inequalities can only be leveled off if all of us will look into the realities of life and find ways for a quality life. Our ANS Batch 1989 community should examine our strengths and weaknesses at this very moment, if we wanted to contribute in making this world a better place, not only for us, but also of the generations to come. To better address the inequalities, it is opined that active groupings will be made, classifying batchmates in the following manner: government officials & employees, commerce & industry, academe, migrant workers/OFWs, practice of profession and self-employed. In this way, we can better facilitate the needs and concerns of a member of the batch without prejudice to the establishment of a common housing and livelihood programs, skills trainings, networks and linkages. It is true that there are disparities in socio-economic standing, but why not adopt the character of a liquid to coalesce and seek its own level if indeed we are one? This brings about recollection of the words in the Scripture, “you clothe me when I’m naked, you feed me when I’m hungry, you visited me when I’m in prison”. Each of us is our brother’s keeper. After all, what is most important is the presence of a batchmate in all our activities without discrimination as to section, religion, gender and status in life namely: finance, education, position, wealth, health, looks and power. Let us then make our Silver Anniversary Celebration meaningful by sincerely calling all batchmates to be present, as the value of their mere presence has no monetary equivalent. It is so easy to procure things in life like food and souvenir T-shirt, but you cannot buy a batchmate, as each has is unique in all aspects. It is highly suggested that instead of exacting contributions to the needy batchmates, we capitalize on their presence and active participation, in order to be recognized and properly accounted for. In such manner, means can be instituted to address the actual and not only perceived reality within our ranks. “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you.” As each of us is God’s instrument to the rest. No probs.” With respect to the Committees on Finance, Food & Beverages, and Events & Programme, these realities are humbly submitted for their utmost consideration and for them to embark on means favoring the needy batchmates, and easing the burden upon their shoulders, if not, granting them exemption. Through collective effort of the batchmates who are better off, networking, pledges and donations, and the grace of God, everything is possible. Let us all exert extra effort to make this 25th Anniversary Celebration the greatest in participation in terms of numbers, extent of sharing, and degree of camaraderie, love and harmony; while putting the much needed dignity upon all members of the batch. Finally, congratulations to all batchmates who have actively participated, passionately discussed, morally and financially supported the embryonic stage of the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the members of the batch, as without your genuine efforts, these issues and situations could not have been revealed. The revelation only shows that you have touched the hearts of the many that have been numb and insensitive for the past years. The question as to how much and whether or not they can pay only for the T-shirt, in relation to financial stresses indicate that many of the batchmates will come and join, as well as strive to find means to do so. In conclusion, no matter what, we must ALL be there at ANS Covered Court, now Cebu City Sports Complex Gym on Sat., December 13, 2014 (1:00pm to 10:00pm), praying to God as one community, sharing a cup of coffee and sumptuous food, listening to a live band, disco-dancing with memorable sounds and lights of the ‘80s, renewing and binding ties, knowing again each other’s faces after 25 years, recognizing each other’s voice, displaying innate beauty and a lot more surprises. Thank you very much. May God bless us all. Respectfully yours, Collin N. Rosell Member, ANS 1989@25 Information Drive Committee With Alfredo Amaga, Mayette B. Gimarino, Juliet Torrejos Nayre, Philip Pangan/Philpangs Pangan, Violeta Sagarino
