To all family, and especially my cousins. Here is a copy of the reading that I wrote for Grampas funeral. I know several of you wanted it. We need to print a copy for Grammie, can someone there with her do this? So glad to see all of you, sad as it was! Grampa Franklin Whether born into the family, or married into the family I think we can all agree that Grampa Franklin was an amazing grandfather to so many of us. When we think of our Grandfather, happy memories come to mind. Memories of sugar on snow, summer cookout s in the backyard, road trips, overnights, Christmas parties at the Moose Lodge, Franklin Reunions , projects made by his loving hands and given as gifts that will always be treasured. Thanksgiving dinners at the long table set up in the garage, kite flying at Easter time, the smell of sawdust on his clothes and hair, the way he laughed silently and his big smile. He was a loving grandfather that enjoyed his family, he watched us grandchildren grow, he attended our graduations and our weddings. He was there to meet his great grand children. As the years went by he mellowed, he softened. Memories switch to visiting while sitting in his living room, bringing him chocolates, playing dominoes and Sequence and watching him play cards with the great grandchildren, always patient with them. Enjoying his and Grammies company when they were able to come visit at our houses, allowing us to play host or hostess. Listening to him recant memories from his youth, some silly, some sad, always intriguing. Our grandfather was always strong, even in his later years. The past few years have been so hard on all of us, watching him when his hips hurt, knowing his arthritis was painful and never complaining or letting on as to what he was going through. Now that he has left this world we will treasure every moment we had with him and we will regret not having had more moments. Life is like that, we grow up and move away, but our family is strong and we never grow apart. This Grampa has taught us. He has been the backbone of our family and today while we shed countless tears for him, we can all take comfort in the love he has left behind for all of us. When I asked my 13 cousins and a handful of his great grand children for just two words about to describe Grampa these are the responses from all of us.
