To all independent labels! With the abolition of the Amazon Japan - TopicsExpress

To all independent labels! With the abolition of the Amazon Japan consignments system etc. prospects aren’t looking good for foreign labels trying to reach Japanese listeners with anything other bigbudget titles. Whilst CD sales have certainly declined, the current situation in Japan is that CD is still an important media and looks unlikely to be supplanted by digital download etc. Murmur Records is starting a distribution agency service to help small foreign labels sell CDs in Japan. We have distributed 17 titles in Japan since our founding in 2011, and recently we are receiving distribution requests from other Japanese labels too. We will take care of all the procedures for selling your companies products in the leading large scale Japanese stores and Amazon Japan etc. On receiving your product package, we will obtain the JAN code needed for Japanese distribution, produce and apply the necessary stickers, and then distribute. We can only accept product packages in the form of properly shrinkwrapped CDs (sorry we cannot accept CDR or vinyl). All you need to do is send us a sample (CDR is fine), the product, and a press release we will take care of the rest! We charge a standard 350 USD agency fee, plus the cost of sticker production (actual cost only) nothing else. We will accept a maximum of 200 copies. In cases with orders exceeding that amount, we will request additional shipments each time by an agreed date. The customer is responsible for all production (including samples and press release) and export costs. Sales reporting and payment will take place 6 months after your product goes on sale. We will also return any surplus stock at that time. Also, 50% of profits from sales made through distribution will go to the Japanese vendor, so please account for this when setting prices.
