To all of our friends and family, we have reached our goal to get Mia to the UK. It is with our deepest appreciation and gratitude that we share a thank you. We have stopped our Go-Fund-Me page at $3,161. After gofundme’s fees (5% per donation) for the page, we raised $2245. At this point, we have funded the major expense (Plane Ticket), and feel we can manage the rest on our own. To those of you that have shared our link, Thank you. To all of you who donated to help us get Mia to the UK with us, we owe you a debt of gratitude. We will keep all of our faithful followers posted on our progress on getting out of here, as things move forward. For those of you that are curious what we have found out regarding expenses, here it is. Plane ticket for a non-stop flight from LAX to Heathrow UK cost’s $1639 (Quoted from United Aug 20, 2014) for a dog + Kennel weighing 150-199 lbs. There is an $82.00 Fuel/ Aircraft fee, bringing the total to $1721. After arriving in the UK, Customs fees range from $567.43 (M-F), to $672.28 (Sat & Sun). This brings the total flight cost to $2289-$2393. Mia’s Size (Over 99 lbs) render’s her ineligible for United Petsafe program. I know prices fluctuate between airlines, this seems like the lowest rate we could find to get her there safely. There are additional costs associated with layover’s ranging from $50-200 (Called Comfort Stops) requiring a minimum of 3 hour stop, and a vet on staff from the Airline. Boarding fees ($800 a week), and transportation costs (Price still TBD) also raise the price, as well as purchasing a kennel ($219 for Giant Kennel), and Airline Kit ($20 which includes stickers for “Live Animal”, Metal Hardware, Puppy Pad, and a Food and Water dish accessible from the outside of kennel required by airline). The water dish included in that kit was not large enough for Mia, and had to purchase a separate one at $10. For all of you getting ready to go through this yourself, I hope this helps. Our 2005 Altima sold today, and the extra on the car will pay the additional amount required. We did not want to take more than we need from anybody, which is why we closed our gofundme page. To all of you who bought something from us in the yardsale page, it was also put towards Mia, however to avoid the gofundme fees, it was not shown on the page. Please continue to sign our petition to change this in the JFTR so no other family has to experience the dilemma of giving up a family member or experiencing financial hardship. Continue following our page “Mia Matter’s” as we put her large butt in a kennel in the middle of LAX, and tail her to the UK, where we will post pictures of her in her swanky new Digs. Again, thank you for all the tremendously helpful people out there who shared links with us, who donated their time, effort and supplies to help us (Deanna Price, and CM Petty) as well as all of you that believed we could do it! - PAWS OUT
