To all of the young members of the extended family, born outside - TopicsExpress

To all of the young members of the extended family, born outside of the country called Haiti, i just finished watching this video documentary compiled by a young Haitian-German born and raised in Haiti, but moved to Germany at the age of 18 years old. He decided to come back to Haiti to showcase his country of birth to a German friend (prior to the earthquake of 2010). He realized a very good documentary and provided an excellent perspective about the Haitian culture and history. I wanted to highlight (cut and paste) the following reaction from an internet viewer of this film, I thought it reflected the views of many of my generation, born in Haiti, educated abroad, tired of misinformation, longing for a better Haiti. Stream strawberriesncandii 6 months ago I am of Haitian descent. Both my parents were born in Haiti and moved to NYC where I was born and raised. Im 22 years old and it sucks that a lot of the young Haitian American, French, Canadian, and even German men and women (myself included) werent educated about the country. We just take what the negative image that textbooks and media tell us about Haiti and never question what we read or watch. One thing I have noticed about attending the school system in the US (NYC) is that every individual that has contributed to the growth of this country and western society in general or re-written as mulatto, African American, Black American, or black. WEB DuBois and Jean Baptiste Point du Sable two of just many examples of this. I was tired of professors in college associating Haitians with voodoo and nothing else and that is why I went on YT to look for answers. I thought this was going to be the same documentary that is taught in our schools but it isnt. This documentary definitely made me cry and this should be a wake up call to the diaspora to do better and to seize the opportunities that they have in America, France, Canada, Germany and beyond. This was such a moving and educational documentary and I am definitely sharing this video with my Haitian friends. Thank you so much for this documentary! God bless you guys!!!!
