To any University Admissions Officer who may concern. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 11:39 PM Hello, since I predict that you people look at your future students Facebook, Im taking the liberty of describing why I want to go to college. Right to the point. I want to study mathematics for two reasons. First is for the sole purpose of having a career and not have monetary issues for myself and any possible family I may have in the future, being that I come from a low-income family and am the first in my family planning to go to college and earn a degree. As to why I choose mathematics over any other subject, my best answer is out of sheer interest. I dont live in circumstances that usually teaches me a lesson about life or inspire me to want to be a certain profession. At least I dont see it that way. Since I started school, I have always had what some of my teachers have called a gift for math. When I had the cognitive abilities to understand I over exceeded in math relative to my peers, I decided I would exploit my gift. Im always thinking, I wonder how much I can learn, so I guess thats my inspiration. Recently, when I took my calculus course in my Junior year, I started learning that math wasnt all theoretical formulas and plug in numbers. I became aware of its various real life applications. Knowing this, my mental inspiration of how much I can learn soared like an ever-growing spiral. I believe higher education such as college will bring me knowledge I probably dont have any idea about. Clearly this post is nowhere near describing who I really am, such as my attitudes, beliefs, social status, etc, but I believe that is something that can be known once I step foot in your university for the first time on the Fall Quarter of 2015.
