To begin your night right, start winding down two hours before - TopicsExpress

To begin your night right, start winding down two hours before going to bed. This means less bright light at night, eliminating it or at least dimming television and computer screens. Try to avoid consuming caffeine in any form after 2pm, or at least 8 hours before bed time, whichever happens to come first. Caffeine has a half life of 6 hours. Meaning 6 hours after you consume a cup of coffee, 50% of that caffeine is still in your system. Avoid exercising late at night too, unless its something relaxing like yoga. Exercise causes an elevation of the stress hormone, cortisol, which can lead to difficulty getting to sleep if you train within 2 hours of going to bed. Going to by bed by 11pm will do wonders in helping you to fall asleep and getting quality sleep when you need it. Staying up later than that causes your body to release a cortisol surge in an attempt to keep you awake. These are all simple and inexpensive ways you can work to improve the quality of your sleep, and should be put into practice if you arent waking up feeling refreshed and ready to go every morning.
