To clarify, if the legislature signs this initiative into law, - TopicsExpress

To clarify, if the legislature signs this initiative into law, things will remain as they are now, with the decision of which animals are to be hunted in the hands of an unelected group made up of lawyers, a surveyor, and business people, folks who are not scientists, nor specialists in environmental or biological sciences. The law would protect itself from future referendums due to the money being pledged to research on the carp and the free licenses for military vets/members (who under current law already qualify for very deeply discounted hunting/fishing licenses anyway). Since the unelected board has already approved the wolf hunt this past season, it is reasonable to assume future hunts would be approved, and perhaps trapping as well. Also, they decide on how many animals are targeted. This is not just about wolves. It is about the rights of Michigan people to have a voice in what animals are taken for game and/or for sport or trophy hunting. The only protected species in the state under the current law is the mourning dove, and any others that are federally protected. If the legislature signs this initiative into law, both of the referendums scheduled to appear on the ballot this fall would be meaningless.
