To members of the community: Please find below an update from Perry Ohren, CEO of Jewish Family Service, who is administering the financial assistance which was outlined in my previous email. Also please find information announcing additional details for applying for funding this week at special hours set up at the Oak Park JCC. Although fundraising is continuing, significant dollars have already been set aside through the Federation financial assistance program. We encourage everyone who is struggling through this very unfortunate and difficult situation to apply and utilize these funds. Yesterday, a $100,000 out-of-state donation was received, which has been added directly to the grant money being distributed by the Federation through JFS. Additional donations are being solicited as well. For anyone who is aware of individuals or organizations that wish to contribute, checks should be payable to “Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit – Disaster Relief” and can either be sent to Scott Kaufman or myself. All donations will be channeled directly into the grants program. Please note that Jewish Assistance Network grants are available to anyone earning less than 400% of the federal subsidy level. Please visit DetroitYeshiva.us2.list-manage1/track/click?u=38d9638c90ef6b0aa0a185d5a&id=9dc8945acf&e=634dd55624 for specific guidelines on these levels. For those that do not qualify for grant assistance, Jewish Assistance Network will guide individuals through new, special loans available through the Hebrew Free Loan Association. We are very grateful to the Federation family of Agencies, specifically Perry Ohren, CEO of Jewish Family Service; David Contorer, executive director of Hebrew Free Loan; Scott Kaufman, CEO of the Jewish Federation; Howard Neistein, Chief Planning Officer of the Jewish Federation; and the entire Federation leadership for all of their extraordinary efforts during this difficult time. There are also in-kind donations and items at significant discount being solicited for goods and items to be distributed, being arranged and solicited through the Detroit Chessed Project. They are collecting data on items lost and items to be solicited. Please visit their website at DetroitChessed.org . If you are aware of any opportunities for goods and items that can be donated, please let them know at (248)221-1894. Please let Detroit Chessed know if you have contacts who may be willing to donate, or sell at large discounts, large bulk items as well. Detroit Chessed Project is also looking for volunteers who can help in all of these areas. If you aware of anyone who is still in need of a basement cleanup, please reply to this email and we will forward it to the appropriate contacts, as help is available. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reply to this email address. If you need assistance getting through the Federation process, please let any of the Rabbanim of the community know and they can contact the appropriate parties within Federation. May we continue to work together to help each other through this difficult time. Bsuros tovos. Yours, Gary
