To my friends in law enforcement, and their compatriots: I - TopicsExpress

To my friends in law enforcement, and their compatriots: I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for always standing watch, taking time away from your families and being there when you are needed most. Secondly I would like to express sympathy for the ADDITIONAL B.S. that you now need to contend with in the wake of Ferguson and Staten Island. It puzzles me that a society as litigious as our doesnt understand that citizens do not have the right to resist arrest, and police can not back down once they attempt an arrest. Clearly if police back down when they are challenged their authority will be usurped. Furthermore we do have a well developed civil court as well as (and often abused) tort system to resolve these disputes and seek remedies for injustice. Day in and day out law enforcement is required to make split second decisions and act, knowing that someone some where with nothing but time will be there to tell you you were wrong. I cant imagine the burden. Occasionally this is necessary, as we all need to be reminder we are accountable. However, there is a time and place for everything, and rarely if ever is it on the side of the road, behind a building or god know where. I truly believe that most officers want to serve their community and go home at the end of the day no worse, maybe a little better than when they started the day, not wind up with their name on wall for rolling around on the side of the road over a disputed traffic ticket or by the hand of a thief fleeing with a TV. Enforcement is a consequence. Finally as I step off my soap box we need to remember that people are people, we all bleed red, cops included. Its time to stop hiding behind race, socioeconomic status or what ever other divider (excuse) that can be conjured up and start looking a fact patter on its own merits identify the proximate cause of the event in question and respond to that. And for those who just dont like cops... maybe, just maybe... if you obey the rules of courtesy, refrain from violence and respect superiors...we would not need so many cops. I like knowing they are standing watch. Thank You.
