To my techy friends... HELP!!!!! what causes cable internet service to be 12 mbps download speeds late at night and then tank to .5 to 1 mbsp during the day? The local (and only) cable company was recently purchased and think that theyre just throttling the bandwidth and speed... here is what else is available around here: DSL - top speeds of about .5 to 1.5 mbsp. Not worth a crap - because of out dated phone lines in this town. They have no plans for any upgrades any time soon. Only 3G wireless service. This might work, though I havent talked to anyone using Verizon internet... (anyone else have any experience with this?) Oh.. I looked in something like Hughes Net and it has top speeds of 5 mbps here locally... :( So anyhow this cable company WAS my best source... but now theyve tanked their services to be in line with all the other options this town offers. What should I do? I need decent internet???
