To our Fountain Valley residents: The City Council Candidates Forum is at 6 p.m. tomorrow at City Hall (Thursday, Sept. 25). You can attend in person (hang out with us in the audience) or watch on TV. Nine people are seeking election on Nov. 4 to three council seats. Three current councilmembers are seeking re-election (Mark McCurdy, Michael Vo, John Collins). The new candidates are Patrick Harper, Jonathan Huynh, Kim Constantine, Tuan Nguyen, Tom Nguyen and Patrick Tucker. You, the voters, are hiring three people to responsibly manage your town. The candidates are doing nothing less than applying for a job, and the employer is you. It is your job to hire (vote for) the right people for this job. It is a noble task to volunteer to be a leader a community. The councilmembers are your neighbors. It takes enormous time, involvement and knowledge to come to understand how to manage a municipality. As you study up on the candidates and their qualifications and visions, be sure you also study up ~~ for yourselves ~~ about how your city functions. You do not want find yourself fooled simply by campaign rhetoric, but instead be knowledgeable of how things actually work. My hope is that the candidates, while getting their chance to be on TV tomorrow night, will be responsible and give the residents accurate, verified information. I expect the nine candidates to show respect for this incredible right to vote weve been bestowed. My biggest hope is that you, the voters, take this process of an election seriously -- not just shy away from it and leave it up to someone else to decide how Fountain Valley will be run. My son, my dad, my two grandpas, and three generations of my grandfathers prior served to protect and uphold our countrys right to an election process. Dont let their efforts go in vain or make a mockery of it. Thanks for listening (er, reading ...). And see you at the ballot booth (actually well be mailing in our votes ahead of time). ~Lynn
