Johann (John) was born to Johann & Lydia Bossert (nee Pfitzer) on September 26, 1929 in the State of Romania in a house down near Hoffnungstal near the Black Sea. He took his schooling in different countries during WW2, also knew 7 languages - German, Romanian, Polish, Russian, French, Latin and English. John immigrated to Canada July 6, 1953 at the age of 23, with only a small suitcase in his hand. He worked for 2 years on a dairy farm in Theadore, SK. In 1955, moved down to Ponteix, SK and started working as a hired man for Eldon & Jean Finell but lived at Arnold & Betty Finell’s where he met the love of his life-Lois in I957. They were married March 7, 1958 in Ponteix, SK. These are a few of the memories of John’s Family written by Shirley Bossert. In 1966, dad bought his own farm, moved a house in and then moved his family in 1967. Dad had a love for animals especially horses. While still in Germany, he’d be horse racing or Equestrian Riding (Steeple Chase) where he won lst prize. In Canada, he broke and trained horses for other people. He also loved his cows, in which he was commended for having a very nice herd that were very quiet. We all swear that dad was the animal whisperer as he could get any animal or bird to come to him and even talk to him. Dad also loved motorcycles. Dad was the happiest when he was working on his farm, planting and watching the things grow with Lois his wife, and his children by his side. Dad was a very hard working and strong man & very seldom would ever ask for help. He was a man of few words and when he spoke, you listened. Dad had a sense of humor, and loved to tease, yet could be very strict, but he loved his children very much, along with his grandchildren & great grandchildren. Dad had a very strong work ethic which he handed down to his children “You start a job, you stayed til the job was finished.” Dad would always say “You put your mind to it, you can do anything even when others would say it couldn’t be done, You prove to them that, Yes it can be done” Dad had a unique whistle that you could hear for 1/2 a mile away or more, even his cows listened for that whistle and come home to be milked. Once we heard that whistle, we’d better high tail it towards him if we didn’t want to get left and have to walk home. Over the years dad mellowed out as it was very stressful and busy raising ll children. Yes, dad was very strict but it was what he knew and it was for our own protection as he didn’t want to lose any of his children. Dad & mom worked very hard and did without, basically putting their lives on the back burner for their children. Some/Most of the grandchildren got to know their grandpa who had lots of patience for them even showing them how to blow bubbles and teaching them about the animals and the farm. In September 2011 dad moved up to the Lloydminster/Turtleford area to be closer to mom and his children due to declining health. In August 2012 dad ended up in the Turtleford Nursing home where he could receive the extra care that he needed. We want to thank the McCaw Funeral Home for the arrangements made on dad’s behalf. A huge thank you goes out to Dr. Odiegwu along with the nurses & staff of the Turtleford Nursing Home for the great care that was given to dad. We also want to thank family, friends and relatives including our family from Germany for being with us during this difficult time. Your thoughts, prayers, words of sympathy & encouragement will be well remembered. We look forward to the time when we will see dad again on a beautiful paradise earth, where there will be no more pain or suffering or tears any more. We long for that day to come. Donations in memory of John may be made to a charity of your choice.
